In 1975, Professor Satoshi Omura at the Kitasato Institute in Japan discovered a soil bacterium that led to the development of Ivermectin with William Campbell. Originally the drug was used to treat roundworm in animals, but by 1988 Merck distributed Ivermectin to treat river blindness in billions of people worldwide. Thanks to Doctors Pierre Kory, Gianfranco Umberto Meduri, Joseph Varon, Jose Iglesias and Paul E. Marik for summarizing the history, studies and recent uses of Ivermectin.
Since 2012 Ivermectin’s antiviral properties have been studied and proven successful against RNA viruses including influenza, Zika, HIV, Dengue and now SARS-CoV-2.
Ivermectin, a cheap and readily available drug with a good safety record has been used for 40 years in billions of patients. The World Health Organization lists Ivermectin on its “List of Essential Medicines.”
Ivermectin has been shown to effectively treat and prevent COVID-19 in several ways, including:
- Inhibits cytokine storm through anti-inflammatory properties
- Reduces spread from infected patients to those around them
- Hastens recovery if used early in mild to moderate COVID-19 cases, and
- Reduces mortality of critically ill COVID-19 patients
Why silence the message about Ivermectin’s use in a doctor’s toolkit to treat and prevent COVID-19? We can only speculate, but check out the full review of Ivermectin for yourself at American Journal of Therapeutics re: Ivermectin May 2021 .
